Take-Home Exam Creative Writing Publications Exam
Take-Home Exam (1/2 of Grade) Due Exam Day For the first four essay questions, respond in well-organized, clearly written paragraphs. Each response should be a minimum of 200 words. Type your answers and save on computer because they may be useful on your Final Exam as well when all students will submit a Case Study. See me ahead if you have a computer access problem. ESSAYS: 1. Assess your strengths and weaknesses as a publications student in the first semester. Include both in-class and out-of-class involvement. Propose an improvement plan for after school second semester and in-school if you will take the second semester course. You may also suggest improvements that are collective, such as for class activities or for organization of Eddas meetings and critiques. 2. Describe your Eddas position or your contribution to Eddas. Explain your effort in meeting your goals to contribute to Eddas. 3. Propose a theme idea for the Eddas magazine with an explanation of how you see this theme unifying the magazine. Write the introduction to the Eddas magazine To prepare for this question, you must read previous introductions to Eddas magazines. These are available on the shelf near the storage cabinet. 4. What are your suggestions for improving Eddas and the interest of students in working with the Eddas staff? 5. What have you learned about journalistic writing through your work on feature articles and reviews. What have you learned about yourself as you have gone through the process of prewriting, drafting, critiquing, and polishing this writing. PORTFOLIO: Solicit additional feedback on your feature and review articles for this course. Revise and polish these one more time. Be sure to create an informative and imaginative headline/title for each article. Print out two copies of each polished article and place in a folder (one copy stapled, one copy paper-clipped). Fill out an Eddas submission for each article and place with paper-clipped copy. Include in the folder all stamped and edited drafts of these articles and any evidence of critiques. Email them to haileycp@pwcs.edu and to eddassubmissions@gmail.com (as a Word attachment if possible). In-Class Exam (1/2 of Grade) New Eddas layout Be sure the text is set in 10 point Times New Roman. Titles can be in a font of your choice, but use the same font for all works on spread. Size of Titles can range from 24 to 48 on poetry (18 if fitting is a problem) and 48 to 72 on prose (36 if fitting is a problem) depending on length and design. Look at old magazines for clever type designs. Include art & writing credits whenever possible. Also include titles of art if known. New Typography Design Experiment with at least 6 titles based on what you have learned from the typography readings and examples. Class Links Although Active Voice is usually the best choice, you should know when it is acceptable to use Passive Voice. Review examples of sentences in Active and Passive Voice. Lists writing friendly college programs and websites to support writers. November is National Novel Writing Month. Write a novel of 50,000 words in a month (1600 words per day)! Submit your work to Polyphony by Feb. 15th to be considered for publication in the next issue. Submit by June 1 for contest consideration. Register for the Young Arts Awards. It does cost money to register, but it costs less if you register in the spring. The price goes up in the fall. You can put yourself in the running for scholarships, so it's worth signing up. The writing isn't due until the fall. |
